• Description

  The thirty-year-old woman has got more of a slender figure, with medium-tanned skin, possibly classified as fawn. Her face is in an oval sort of shape, very soft features that slant down to a rounded chin. Maera's eyes are almond-roundish, in a pale blue-grey color. Not far above them are rounded off eyebrows of a moderate thickness. She has a few freckles dusted across her nose, hardly darker than her skin and very difficult to take note of. These only fade with age. Her nose is straight, no indentations - and her lips are full, a natural rosy color. Finally, she has short hair in a wild pixie cut, medium brown in color.
  
  She wears a weird sort of getup, most of the time. It's not exactly the robes a mage would wear, but not technically armor either. It's a lower-cut, white shirt, sleeves rolled up all the time. This is covered by a black sleeveless vest that laces up down the front of her torso, and gradually gets longer until it reaches to her knees in the back. A brown belt ties about her hips. She usually wears brown leather boots that come up just past her knees, black leggings underneath. This allows her to move a little more freely, yet still have a decent amount of protection. And then, she has bits of leather, gilded with metal, tied onto her left arm for better protection. Being right-handed, her left is not moving all the time and needs a little more help.
  
  Her weapon is a stave. A stave that can be passed for a spear - and this is what she uses it as, unless she is alone. Should she actually cast magic from it, it produces lightning, her favored element. This "spear" of hers is made of carved rosewood, braided leather covering where it should be held. The tip is Steel, fanned out more fur cutting than impaling - though the latter is not impossible to achieve.

• Personality

  Most of the time, she likes to joke around and just have fun. There's no point in being depressed all the time, in her opinion. Since she likes to wander around a lot instead of staying at home, she tends to get in a lot of fights and work jobs for the townsfolk - during this time, she can be completely serious, but still tends to try to be sarcastic. Maera enjoys helping people when she can, sometimes going o extremes to do so. She takes care of those she loves, and would do basically anything to keep them from harms way. Thanks to being in the Circle so long, she might be a bit shy at first - not able to understand your intentions towards her. She should warm up.

• History

  Maera's father was Orlesian, and her mother Fereldan. Maera spent the first part of her life in Jader, a city in Orlais, living with both of her parents and younger sister, Irwen. This sister was an adopted elf, blind since birth. Her family received a lot of criticism thanks to this - her father was a Comte, making her mother his Comtesse, and the whole "adopted elf daughter" brought them down more towards the common folk. It was used as ammunition towards her family in "The Game" on more than one occasion.
  
  It was around this time when Maera discovered her magic. She was seven years old, and helping her sister walk around the market when someone came up and tried to drag the blind elf away. Maera became enraged and as she reached for the mans arm, a bolt of lightning surged through her hand, electrocuting, but not killing the man. Of course he got scared and ran, sparing Irwen. Despite her parents' pleas, Maera was dragged off to the Circle in Val Royeaux.
  
  Here she stayed for thirteen years, honing her skills and easily passing her Harrowing. The First Enchanter had taken quite a shine to her, for both her skill as a mage and her outlook on life. This, of course, changed when she attempted to escape. Her sister frequently visited her in the Circle, secretly plotting to take her away from the Circle. This ended up becoming reality.
  
  After four failed escape attempts, Maera broke out with the help and support of her family, staying in Orlais for two years, Jader, of course, before the Templars hounded them again and they were forced to run away to Fereldan. Her mother could put down roots there. Denerim. Not as many Templars there as there was in Orlais. She stayed here for about seven years.
  
  In her first week there, she went down by the docks and went into one of the taverns there to meet someone - someone who apparently was from the Circle in Val Royeaux as well. This place was called The Clover. Since the person decided not to show up, and the men in the tavern wouldn't let her leave, the jumpy Circle Mage in her came out and she casted a torment hex on one of the men - silently. She was no fool. He ran away holding his head, and another man came up to her. This one was friendly though. Or seemed to be. He turned out to be the youngest son of the couple that owned the tavern, and ended up threatening to kick the offending men out if they kept it up. The man was not small, and he was later revealed to be a mercenary that went and worked jobs with one of his brothers, Gareth, in order to support his family. He was called Acacius Meirin. Over the years, Acacius, more commonly known as Cas, took Maera's skittish demeanor and turned it into a more aggressive one as he taught her to fight. Turns out, she found joy in murdering people. Not illegally, of course. She only killed people that had done wrong. Even after Gareth died, and Cas became a Grey Warden, she stuck with him, mainly because she found traveling more appealing compared to all the Noble parties she was forced to attend.
  
  Then came the Blight. Maera had been recently engaged to a wealthy Ferelden Nobleman against her will. The two were separated - thankfully - after her family fled to Kirkwall - her mother dying of the taint on the way there. Maera stayed in order to see if Cas had managed to survive Ostagar or not. By now, her Orlesian accent was almost completely gone. Cas had survived, and she made the decision to stay and help him with the Blight. In the end, it was not they who slew the Archdemon, but they did eventually find those other two Wardens and joined up with them. Maera and Cas defended the rest of Denerim from the Darkspawn while those other two took care of the Archdemon. Cas and Maera are not known as one of the Heroes of the Fifth Blight, but the folk in Denerim treated them with more respect. Then, Maera, now having only a burnt down house to return to, reluctantly went to Kirkwall to be with her family. Even with the Templars, she knew that her sister wouldn't last too long with only their father as company.
  
  Now, living in Lowtown, it's just Maera, Irwen, and their father. Their family back in Orlais tends to leave them alone - technically, they are criminals because of the whole apostate thing.
